Breast Augmentation Recovery
Breast Augmentation Recovery in Sydney
What should you expect after a breast augmentation in Sydney?
Most breast augmentation procedures are performed as a day only operation, meaning that you will go home on the day of your operation. However, there is no rush to go home if you don’t feel up to it, and some patients do stay a night in hospital if they prefer to do that. Dr Gavin Sandercoe will monitor you to ensure your safety after your breast augmentation in Sydney.
Side effects that may occur after a breast augmentation in Sydney
In the first 24 hours, it is normal to expect the following symptoms:-
• Drowsiness
• Dry throat
• Nausea (possibly)
• Mild discomfort and stiffness
Pain management after your breast augmentation
You will be discharged home with a prescription for pain relief and antibiotics. You will be taking these medications for a few days after your breast augmentation in Sydney. If you are prone to feeling sick after operations, you will also be given a prescription for something to help with that.
The local anaesthetic helps with pain control for the first evening, but has usually worn off by the following morning. This is usually the time when patients feel the most soreness. Anti-inflammatories are a good choice of pain relief, and moving your shoulders and chest around (think yoga poses of pushing your chest out and touching both hands together above your head) will help relieve the stiff and sore feeling in your chest.
You will wake up with a surgical or post operative bra on, and you should wear one at all times in the first six weeks after your breast augmentation in Sydney. This prevents swelling and encourages the implant to settle in the position that your surgeon planned.
Return to activity after your breast augmentation in Sydney
A breast augmentation is a surgical procedure, and you will need to plan for a little “down time” after your breast lift in Sydney. Most people can return to an office job within a week or two. You will slowly be able to resume your other activities. Running and gym work on your chest needs to wait for six to eight weeks.
Your body will tell you (with pain) if you are trying too soon. When you feel pain, it’s important that you back off and wait a few days before trying that activity again, rather than “pushing through the pain.” Allowing time for your body to heal will result in the fewest complications from your breast augmentation in Sydney.
Follow up after your breast augmentation in Sydney
You will be asked to see Dr Gavin Sandercoe and his team for several follow up appointments to ensure that your body is healing well from the procedure. This also allows your Specialist Plastic Surgeon in Sydney to treat any complications that occur. You will have appointments scheduled at one week and three weeks with the practice nurse, and then three and twelve months after your breast augmentation in Sydney with Dr Gavin Sandercoe. Some procedures may require longer follow up. If there are any problems, we want to hear from you and sort it out as soon as possible!
