What is the cost for a labioplasty in Sydney?

Like many procedures, it is technically possible to perform a labioplasty under local anaesthetic. Internal pudendal nerve blocks can be used to mostly make the labia minora numb during a procedure. This nerve block is imprecise and even with ultrasound (intra-vaginal) guidance often leads to an incomplete block, requiring local anaesthetic to need to be directly infiltrated into the labia minora to allow a surgeon to complete the procedure. Without intravenous sedation, this is quite uncomfortable for the patient.
From March 2017, labioplasty has only been allowed to be performed in licensed medical facilities in NSW. A key component of licensing a facility for cosmetic surgery is the ability to convert from a sedation to a full general anaesthetic when required.
A faster general anaesthetic is cheaper for patients than a slower sedation and local anaesthetic procedure. Dr Gavin Sandercoe now only performs labioplasty under full general anaesthetic in fully licensed facilities.
It is almost impossible to qualify for an item number for labioplasty, so there is no financial assistance from Medicare or your health fund.
Like all procedures, there are a few elements to take into consideration when billing for a labioplasty operation. The fees for a labioplasty in Sydney include:
•    The Surgeon’s Fee (+/- Assistant’s fee)
•    The Anaesthetist’s Fee
•    The Hospital/Facility Fee
