Body Lift Procedure

Body Lift in Sydney – Procedure

What happens during a body lift (circumferential lipectomy) in Sydney?

When you book your appointment to discuss your body lift, you will be sent a Patient Information Form. Completing this and returning it prior to your appointment will streamline your appointment.

Consultation appointments for your body lift (circumferential lipectomy) in Sydney

You should expect to spend about an hour with Dr Gavin Sandercoe. During this time he will take a thorough history and examination. Measurements of your waist, buttock & thigh dimensions; and the quality & thickness of overlying tissue, will help plan which is the most appropriate surgical technique for you. Digital photographs are taken to assist with planning and explaining any asymmetries or limitations.

Dr Gavin Sandercoe is a fully qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon with training and experience in many techniques of body lift in Sydney. He does not favour one particular technique – instead, he will help you understand which type of surgery will best suit your body and your recovery needs. Whilst there is often a desire to have many skin tailoring procedures at once, Dr Gavin Sandercoe will not perform additional procedures with a circumferential or 360 body lift. This minimises the risk of complications and makes your recovery less gruelling.

Dr Gavin Sandercoe will discuss what you wish to achieve from your procedure. The risks and expectations of the procedure are then discussed and you are given a take home information package to review before your second consultation. You are offered a second consultation free of charge to give you the opportunity to ask more questions that may have arisen after reading your information package, and to confirm your aims and choices. We want you to feel completely confident that you made the right decision about your body contouring surgery in Sydney.

Ensuring you are healthy before your body lift (circumferential lipectomy)

Due to the size of this operation and the expected blood loss, it is highly important to ensure that your nutrition is optimised, especially your haemoglobin levels (from a high intake of iron, folate and Vitamins B12 and C). A nutritional screening blood test is ordered, and you may need to see a nutritionist prior to your operation. If you are not on a multivitamin and iron/folate supplement, it is highly recommended.

The day of your body lift (circumferential lipectomy) in Sydney

Dr Gavin Sandercoe only performs body lift procedures in accredited hospitals, ensuring that your safety is paramount. Prior to your operation, you will have planning marks drawn on you and a digital photograph taken.

You are put to sleep by a specialist anaesthetist (general anaesthetic), and pain relief and antibiotics are given through a drip before the operation is started. The antibiotic helps to prevent an infection from developing in the incisions, thereby minimising your risk of post-operative complications.

The procedure begins with patient being face down, to perform the buttock and outer thigh lift first. Any required liposuction is performed first, and then the excess skin is removed. The patient is then turned over, and the abdominoplasty is performed. Drains are always placed into the buttocks and abdomen. The incisions are then closed and dressings applied. Your surgical compression garment will be fitted before you wake up & go to the recovery room.

For all patients, a body lift in Sydney is performed as an inpatient procedure, so you should expect to stay a few nights in hospital, maybe up to a week.
