Skin Resurfacing in Sydney
What is skin resurfacing in Sydney?
If you are bothered by skin problems like fine lines, uneven skin tone, or uneven skin texture, skin resurfacing may help you. We offer skin resurfacing in Sydney with the Pearl and Pearl Fractional.
Pearl Treatment
Cutera’s Pearl skin resurfacing treatment is a great way to restore the skin’s natural glow by treating fine lines, uneven skin tone and texture with the least amount of treatments and recovery downtime. In only 1 – 2 treatments, the skin’s youthful appearance and feel will be restored with only 3 – 4 days of ‘social downtime’.
The Pearl skin resurfacing procedure works on the epidermal (upper) layer of the skin, delivering pulses of light at 2790nm. A portion of the skin is gently removed, whilst simultaneously sending heat to the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production. This thermal effect causes a natural protective dressing to be formed on the skin, which minimises downtime through the skin’s restoration process.
On day 3 or 4 after the treatment, the natural dressing will peel away, leaving healthy, vibrant, ‘pearl like’ skin. The procedure could be described as a ‘thermal peel’, having the ability to treat the entire epidermis.
What is involved in Pearl skin resurfacing in Sydney?
The Pearl was FDA cleared in March 2007 for the treatment of wrinkles and skin resurfacing and is described to feel like a series of brief pinches. The treatment takes about 15 – 30 minutes, however patients need to arrive 1 hour prior to their treatment to have the topical anaesthetic applied to their skin. This allows you to be more comfortable during your skin resurfacing in Sydney.
After the treatment, there is approximately 4 days downtime. By the 4th or 5th day, patients can apply mineral make up and return to normal daily activities. It is essential that sun protection is applied in the month following the procedure.
Pearl Fractional
Pearl Fractional is a new and advanced skin treatment that improves deep wrinkles, sun damage and skin texture in just one treatment. Cutera’s Pearl Fractional offers faster and superior results, with fewer treatments and less recovery downtime, than the standard fractional treatments that have been available for a few years.
Pearl Fractional is more intensive than the Pearl procedure, focusing on the deeper dermal layers in the skin. There is typically around 6 days social downtime after skin resurfacing in Sydney. ‘Fractional’ is a procedure which only exposes a fraction of the skin to the 2790nm laser beam, causing a pattern of tiny dots to appear. These dots are columns of damaged tissue being selectively removed, which stimulates the growth of new collagen, plumping the skin from the deeper layers.
Most patients see significant improvement from just one skin resurfacing treatment, and maximum results are visible in 1 – 3 months following. The procedure is described ‘as a series of fast, hot pinches’. To reduce discomfort, topical anaesthetic is applied 1 hour prior, and local anaesthetic administered immediately prior, to the treatment.
The skin appears sunburnt and swollen during the recovery downtime, and sun exposure should be limited in the week following the skin resurfacing treatment. Mineral make up can be applied by around the 5th day after the procedure. For the following month, sun protection should be applied religiously.
